Stringing / oozing (web-like hairs between parts)

Thin, spiderweb-like strands of plastic stretch between separate parts of the print, or fine hairs cling to the surface.

Quick fix stringing oozing hairy prints wisps

Likely causes

  1. Nozzle temperature too high for the filament
  2. Wet filament (steam pushes plastic out while travelling)
  3. Too little retraction distance or speed
  4. Travel moves crossing open air instead of the part
  5. Slow travel speed giving the nozzle time to ooze

How to fix it

  1. Dry the filament, then re-test. This is the single most common real cause.
  2. Drop nozzle temperature by 5 °C at a time until strings disappear, staying above the minimum for layer bonding.
  3. Increase retraction distance and speed gradually (direct drive: 0.4–1 mm; Bowden: 4–7 mm).
  4. Enable "avoid crossing perimeters" / combing so travel stays inside the part.
  5. Raise travel speed so the nozzle spends less time oozing in open air.
  6. Enable a small z-hop (0.2 mm) only if mechanical scraping is not the issue.

The fastest path to a fix

Change one thing at a time and print a small test. Start with the first fix listed — it is the most common cause.
